If you are going to Alaska on the Star Princess this post is for you. A couple of things:
- When booking a room, especially if getting a balcony room or a room with a window, consider getting it on the Starboard side. When we cruise past the glacier, the starboard side was the side that was best for the glacier viewing. Our room was portside, so we had to go on deck to view it. We booked a deluxe balcony room on the 11th level. My tip when choosing a room to make sure you have cabins below and above you. Also look at the deck plans. There were a few times that in order to get to the front or back of the ship, we had to walk the hallway of rooms in order to get to parts of the ship on some levels. You may not want a room that has a lot of traffic going by.
- On the Star Princess we were in room 11438. I will say that I was surprised, especially since it was a new ship, that it wasn’t as insolated as I thought it would be. We could hear people walking around above us at times. When our neighbors slammed their balcony door or their room door, things in our room rattled. I thought one time the TV was definitely coming off the wall! Thankfully it didn’t. I mentioned it to our neighbors and it got a bit better.
- We straightened our room each day before leaving in the morning and before leaving for dinner to help out the room attendant. We never got any towel animals. Not sure if that was something to ask for or not. If you want them, I’d definitely let your attendant know.
- Our room had an angled balcony that was bigger than a normal balcony, which was great. The bed is close to the balcony with the couch on the side toward the door. That was great as we were able to lay in bed and look our at the scenery. I think that if the bed had been on the other side with the couch near the balcony we wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much.
- The storage in our room was great. Fit all our things with no problems. The fridge was cleaned out before we got there for storage, but it isn’t a deep fridge. We were close to the elevators but far enough away that we didn’t have an issue with noise from them. We were on a corner and had no room across from us which was nice as well.
- The shower. Small but I liked that you could turn on and get the right temperature before getting under the water. Just make sure that the nozzle is pointed away from the shower door or you’ll get the floor outside the shower wet.
- The room had ample storage and 2 hooks on the inside of the bathroom door and 2 hooks in the ‘hallway’ by the entrance to the room. I also brought magnetic hooks. We only ended up using 2 of the 4 because we didn’t need the others. The hooks I bought were STRONG. I had issues getting them off the wall. LOL. Here’s the link for them if you want to buy some. I put one by the balcony to hang the binoculars I bought. https://amzn.to/4eZS0f1 For the binoculars, I had a small travel pair I had from a long time ago. They can run expensive. My suggestion is if you have the time, keep an eye out at the thrift store. I see them there periodically. We had enough hangers without having to ask for more. The bed was firmer than we like (we like a soft bed) and it already had the topper on. It was light outside until 10pm or later and the sun was out early. If you are sensitive to the light, you might want to bring an eye mask.
